A PEMF mat s a flat device embedded with coils that emit pulsed electromagnetic fields at low frequencies. The user lies or rests on it, allowing the electromagnetic pulses to penetrate tissues.
PEMF works by inducing weak electric currents in tissues (via Faraday’s law) which can modulate cell membrane potentials, ion channels, and intracellular signaling. It is believed to influence inflammation, circulation, and cellular repair processes. Some preclinical experiments show that PEMF exposure can enhance osteogenic differentiation of stem cells on certain substrates, boosting expression of bone-related genes (e.g. ALP, osteocalcin).
Pain relief, musculoskeletal conditions
Several randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses suggest that PEMF therapy can reduce pain intensity (e.g. in chronic musculoskeletal pain, osteoarthritis, low back pain) and improve function. One systematic review concludes that in low back pain, PEMF “it's able to relieve the pain intensity and improve functionality” relative to sham or standard treatments. In osteoarthritis, a review across multiple PEMF devices observed significant improvements in pain scales (VAS) and quality of life indicators.
Anti-inflammatory effects & modulation of immune response
PEMF may modulate cytokine expression, shifting the balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory signals, which could support tissue regeneration.
Bone healing / regeneration
Historically, PEMF has been approved in orthopedics (e.g. bone non-union, delayed union) to support healing. It may accelerate recovery from stress fractures when used adjunctively, as suggested in sports medicine literature.
Circulation, oxygenation, cellular “recharge”
Proponents claim improved microcirculation, increased oxygen delivery, and enhancement of mitochondrial (ATP) activity.
Other claims
Proizvođači navode i dodatne efekte kao što su bolji san, smanjenje stresa, detoksikacija i više energije.
Full-body long-term effects
One study applied whole-body PEMF (via mat) three times per week over 12 weeks combined with exercise, observing some beneficial changes.
Tony Robbins states he uses PEMF daily, claiming cellular “recharging” and relief from injuries.joltpemflab.com).
Shaquille O’Neal is said to incorporate PEMF for joint and muscle recovery after his basketball career (joltpemflab.com).
Terrell Owens reportedly used PEMF to recover from heel pain, noting improvement the next morning.
Lance Armstrong, Roger Moore, dr. Mehmet Oz, Ben Greenfield, Joe Rogan and Gary Brecka are also mentioned in various promotional or testimonial accounts.
PEMF mats are noninvasive way to stimulate recovery, reduce pain/inflammation, and support cellular health. You can try the PEMF mat at our Soho House Wellness studio or order it online here:
